"Crepe Myrtle Summer" Mandala
acrylic on canvas
I created this using my sketches of crepe myrtles as reference. The center vortex of the mandala was designed using the forms and lines of the trunk structures. I make patterns of different aspects of the plant and then manipulate them until I am please with their symmetrical repetitious placement. In this one I decided to include a "botanical" study of a blossom stem.

"Koi Pond"
This is the first floorcloth that I have ever posted here on my blog. I paint them mostly as commissioned pieces. They are so "site" specific as most clients want them to be compatible with their decor. I started doing these because the idea fascinated me somehow as an application of useful or applied art. So, after lots of experimenting and study I thought I had created some interesting creative objects of art for submission to our regional craft guild. "Long story short": In the year 2000 I became a member of "Piedmont Craftsmen" after passing a stringent jury process of submitting examples of my floorcloths and tablecovers . This guild has given me great exposure in this Southeastern region of the US. From time to time I receive commissions because of my affiliation with this splendid group of craftsmen and the attention that it has given me.

"Coming Out of the Closet"
Awhile back my blog friend Gary L. Everest ( http://gleverestpaintings.blogspot.com/) asked me to post an image of myself beside the recently created mandala "Acer Palmatum" so that the scale of the painting could be more easily grasped. He also indicated that I may be a bit shy. I must admit I am shy about photos of myself while not being a shy person, "in person" at all. Well, one day in the studio where I teach, a willing friend made a photo of me with said painting. So....here 'tis:

"Afternoon Clouds"
acrylic on canvas
8" X 8"
SOLD
Here's another small painting that I did back in the summer. The sky was so interesting this day with bold clouds holding beautiful colors against extreme blue. This is a location near my home that I paint over and over-different times of day, different seasons, sometimes altering my point of reference.

"Artum Garden Summer"
acrylic on canvas
8" X 8"
SOLD
I painted this a couple months ago while the Crapemyrtles were still in bloom-one of my favorite mid-size blooming trees. They love our hot, humid summers here in North Carolina. This is a lovely path in "Artum Garden" near where I live. There's a small pond with a little waterfall just to the right of this view. I posted a painting of it here on my blog this past December (2014). You can hear the refreshing trickle while walking down this path.
