"Memories of Fort Fisher"

hot windy shore stroll
where live oaks withstood thus far
so many hard storms

I painted this for my great niece and her husband as a wedding gift. They live very near this site and enjoy the beauty and atmosphere of this part of our planet-coastal North Carolina-me too! There are many "live oaks" that have been shaped by the prevailing sea-born winds and they have survived every hurricane and climate change, thus far, along this beautiful shoreline of our continent. This painting is from my memories of many visits to this location.

"Near Osprey Lane, Topsail, NC"

Looking in the opposite direction of my last painting...yet another view that captivated my attention and desire to paint this charming little house on the bay.
The mornign light spread warmth over the view in front of me.

"Looking Toward Alligator Bay, Topsail, NC"

A clear crisp day. I found the perfect place to paint plein air in a gazebo at the end of a pier in this beautiful inlet. Quiet, alone to paint the beauty of the moment.

"Marsh at Fort Fisher"

A cold and windy November day when I did this painting. This was the first time that I used my new French easel (a gift from my sister Peggy). I had to hold on tight to everything so that nothing would blow away! All in all a very satisfying experience to be in the moment and to be pleased with my finished creation. My set-up location was just behind one of NC's fabulous state aquariums, which would be just the right in this composition and to the left, just over the dunes, is the Atlantic Ocean.

"Sunlight on the Cape Fear"

One day while driving down the road closest to the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, NC, I discovered this wonderful spot right on the river. I was so enamored by the bright sunlight with it's head-on glare on the water. I tried to capture that in this painting. A very peaceful and pleasant experience for me.
