This painting is imaginary. However, it was inspired by my many walks in the woods along Monarcas Creek. I wanted to create a scene that is typical of this area of North Carolina.

It always amazes me that some trees seem to survive in spite of all hardships like hot, cold, winds, ice, snow, wet, dry, insects, diseases and man's abuse.

When the gardens are in full bloom, the colors are so bright and beautiful. A stroll down the paths certainly lifts the spirits and quite a vision to behold.

A pleasant morning painting in this old cemetery here in Winston-Salem while volunteers were giving tours to acquaint people with it's history. A small group of dedicated citizens are working hard to rescue the site from the ravages of time and neglect.

Gently rolling hills, a ploughed field ready for planting, woodsy areas and a red dirt bank along with a creek barely visible at the left side of the field depicts an imaginary landscape very typical of this area of the country where I grew up.

I really enjoy driving around in neighboring counties. The farmland is so beautiful in the rolling hills as you get closer to the mountains going west. This is a scene from my travels back in July.

I think this view was near Grandfather Mountain along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Painted from a photograph. I just don't remember the exact location.

The Yadkin River is one of the longest rivers in North Carolina. It runs through my home county. During the summer months many people enjoy boating, kyacking, and tubing (riding inflated tire inner tubes) down the river.

The town of Asheville, NC has a wonderful botanical garden. In the past I've enjoyed meandering through basking in the beautiful sights, sounds and scents of nature. Here's a painting of one of my favorite vistas there:

To me, "soft" days (as the British call overcast, cloudy days) have always had an engaging beauty. Here's my painting of one of our state's iconic landmarks on such a day:

A place not too far from my home where I love to walk. The midday shadows and bright light are what attracted me to this scene.

Each season brings new plants blooming at Reynolda Village. It's always a treat to walk around the gardens and see what's new.

Another typical scene down east in North Carolina where the geography gets flatter as you travel toward the sea. The morning sky was exceptionally beautiful on this day.
