Hi Gary Well I guess you're right about the colors and shapes that I have used here-they do seem to evoke a Gauguin sort of spark. I've never really "studied" his art, however I have enjoyed viewing it many times in my life. I sketched during early morning hours at Julian Price Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway-enjoyed sitting by a lovely stream and could look in any direction and find beautiful vistas to interpret. Later, back in my studio in Winston-Salem, I opened my sketchbook and decided to paint this. It evolved, of course, through the painting process, as most paintings do, to what you see here.
