"The Yadkin River in Forsyth County, NC"

The Yadkin River is one of the longest rivers in North Carolina.  It runs through my home county. During  the summer months many people enjoy boating, kyacking, and tubing (riding inflated tire inner tubes) down the river.

"At Asheville Botanical Gardens"

The town of Asheville, NC has a wonderful botanical garden.  In the past I've enjoyed meandering through basking in the beautiful sights, sounds and scents of nature.  Here's a painting of one of my favorite vistas there:

"Grandfather Mountain on a Gray Day"

To me, "soft" days (as the British call overcast, cloudy days) have always had an engaging beauty.  Here's my painting of one of our state's iconic landmarks on such a day:

"Trail at Mill Creek"

A place not too far from my home where I love to walk.  The midday shadows and bright light are what attracted me to this scene.

"At Reynolda Village"

Each season brings new plants blooming at Reynolda Village.  It's always a treat to walk around the gardens and see what's new.

"Red Bloom for a Day"

Hemerocallis (day lilies) come in many colors and bloom times throughout the growing season.  A single bloom lasts for just a day. This one has a lovely gradation from the green center to the red outer areas of the petals.

"Sky Over Sampson County Farm"

Another typical scene down east in North Carolina where the geography gets flatter as you travel toward the sea.  The morning sky was exceptionally beautiful on this day.

"Farm Near Route 18"

One day while driving in the country I came upon this scene. It is very typical of farms in this area right at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

"Old Redbud Tree"

This old redbud tree has seen better days.  However it's structure caught my eye with the large negative spaces (spaces between the branches) pointing in one direction toward the base of the tree. It does have character and a little life left in it with the few small leafy branches.  En plein air about two and 1/2 hours.

"Three Roses"

This Spring the weather has been just right for producing an abundance of perfectly beautiful roses.  These were given to me by a neighbor.  The variegated red and white one is a heavily scented variety that filled my studio with that unmistakable "scent of a rose".  From life:
