"Bridging the Brook"

"Scarlet, crimson, carmen, red-
Let’s mosey over the bridge instead
Of napping under this glowing tree.
For on the far side of the stream we’ll see
And smell the beauty of earth’s sweet song
Not remembering why we came or how long
We’ve wandered from our own dear aerie."

It's easy to see that this painting is all about red (and the little white bridge). I used a palette knife for a good bit of this-something I haven't done in years-fun! The atmospheric spaces became important to me as I began to work with the positive and negative shapes in this composition. I enjoy the abstract quality of the almost puzzle-like forms.

  1. Love the palette, Steven, it's so joyous and the little bridge pulls me into the painting making we want to discover what is on the other side. I really like the size too, it must be great in real life.

    all the best
